POVERTY IS NOT NATURAL,OR INEVITABLE,BUT A RESULT OF DECISIONS.ADD YOUR VOICE TO OUR CAMPAIGN

Poverty is not simply about the economy. It’s not just about money or economic growth. Poverty is insecurity because of the threat of forced eviction or violence. It is exclusion from basic services. It is discrimination and the denial of justice. It is world leaders and corporations ignoring the voices they don’t want to hear, and not being held accountable for the human rights violations that keep people poor We are collecting your opinions on the biggest human rights issues facing the world to publish them. We want to connect people to each other and to their governments.

Sharon Chepkirui's Odeal

This statement by TABITHA NJOROGE is an example of how our sisters are suffering..

Please read as she explains Sharon Chepkirui's Odeal.

"On Saturday the 23rd of this month as l read Saturday Nation newspaper, l came across a story done by Kwamchetsi about a lady whose nose and ears were chopped by her husband after a domestic quarrel. I was very disheartened and disturbed and was compiled to find out the details of the story and the state of that lady. I went to COVAW on Monday and spoke to one of the officers there by the name of Carol Waiganjo who gave me the shocking details of the battered lady. Sharon Chepkiru i(20yrs old) was brought to Nairobi 3 weeks ago from Kericho to Nereo Chepkorir to work for her as a househelp. Nereo was shocked to see the state that Sharon was in and kept her in her house until last week when she took her to COVAW to seek any assistance for Sharon, since she is in bad health and can’t even work and has nowhere else to go. From Carol’s interview with both Sharon and Nereo, Carol was able to establish that Sharon was battered by her husband in March last year. She was taken to Kericho general hospital by good Samaritans where they only gave her fast aid, the wounds have since healed, though she looks terrible and needs reconstructive surgery that will cost Ksh: 200,000 at Kenyatta hospital. She has lost her self esteem because she ties a head scarf quite low near her nose to hide the scars and she keeps looking down as she doesn’t want people looking at her, she doesn’t speak much as it was Nereo who was speaking for her. All she had to say to Carol was “Hi mambo tumezoea na ni kawaida” which means she as reconciled to domestic sexual violence and accepts it as normal. One question am left wondering is could it be that domestic violence in Kericho is more rampant? Sharon’s husband was arrested then and has since been released and he is a free man, probably now married to another woman who he is likely to assault or is already assaulting. Carol could only give me Nereo’s cell number to try reach Sharon, l have tried calling that number continuously but it’s off since yesterday. I will keep calling it till l find them and l also left my contact at COVAW just incase Nereo and Sharon shows up again. I will keep you all update on this case because l must see and find ways of helping Sharon. She also needs counseling. Anybody in this forum who can offer Sharon counseling services? I will also pick up Sharon’s husband case with FIDA to follow-up. Justice must prevail."

MY SILENT SPEECH

That first day,
I wanted you when i spoke to you,
I wanted to hear your voice again,
Over and over again,
I can only hope your affection,
Continues to grow

I admit it,
I am excited,
I reach my hand through the phone,
you're always out of reach;
Is now my silent speech,
But I want you to know,
Behind it all is a true heart

The time slows down,
it seems to crawl,
I know that time will come,
I have to wait for another day,
I must wait,
For you i must

I sit hopelessly in my bed,
Waiting for you to call,
Till it's time for me to shut my eyes;
Then i meet you in my dreams,
And i kiss u my angel,
After all in spirit i am with you.

Violence against women is unacceptable

Violence against women is any act of gender-based violence that results in, or may result in, physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.

Change is a responsibility and is within the power of an individual.

I believe we can change the way things are done, we can end Violence against Women We can stop the habitual and socially ingrained violence that mars lives, destroys health, perpetuates poverty and prevents us from achieving women’s equality and empowerment..

Kenya: Amnesty International calls for immediate investigation into execution-style killings of human rights activists

6 March 2009

Amnesty International today called on the Kenyan government to investigate immediately yesterday’s execution-style killings of two human rights activists.

The two men were shot dead in their car while stopped in traffic in the centre of Nairobi. It appeared to be a coordinated ambush. At least two gunmen fled the scene, according to eyewitnesses.

Oscar Kamau Kingara and Paul Oulu both worked with the Oscar Foundation Free Legal Aid Clinic (the Oscar Foundation), campaigning against illegal killings by the police and for the police to respect human rights in their security operations against alleged members of the Mungiki – a government-banned group operating in parts of Nairobi and central Kenya.

The Oscar Foundation has filed complaints against the Kenyan government in court, and called for investigations into illegal killings by police of people suspected of being members of Mungiki.

“Kenya must not become a place where it is unsafe to be a human rights defender. The Kenyan authorities should make it clear that attacks against those who promote human rights are completely unacceptable and that anyone who carries out such attacks will be brought to justice.”

The shooting followed a live television broadcast of a statement by a government spokesperson, Alfred Mutua, stating: "Mungiki has an NGO by the name of Oscar Foundation, which they use to try and get funds from overseas.... It is a front so that they can be able to carry out their activities”.

“It is unacceptable for the Kenyan government to make statements suggesting that opposition to illegal killings by the police amounts to support for banned groups,” said Erwin van der Borght. “The government should make it clear that this is not the case, and pledge support and protection for anyone doing legitimate human rights work – even if it amounts to criticism of government practice.”

Notes to editors:

Amnesty International, the Kenyan National Commission on Human Rights and other Kenyan human rights organisations have documented the extra-judicial execution of hundreds of alleged Mungiki members by Kenyan security forces. On 27 February 2009, following a fact-finding mission in Kenya, the UN Special rapporteur on extra-judicial, arbitrary or summary executions issued a statement condemning these killings and calling for police perpetrators to be brought to justice. He also called for the resignation of the Police Commissioner and the Attorney-General of Kenya.

The Mungiki group is mainly active in Nairobi and parts of central Kenya. Group members say that they are guided by traditional religious and moral beliefs and the group claims to have a role in maintaining law and order and the running of the public transport industry in parts of Kenya.

Alleged members have demanded "protection fees" from owners of public service vehicles and been implicated in killings and the assault of members of the public.

Leaders of the group have publicly alleged that the group has tacit support from prominent government officials in the current and previous governments, but have so far not named any.

The previous government banned the group on 8 March 2002. At the time, the then-Commissioner of Police is reported to have categorized Mungiki as one of the "perpetrators of lawlessness and insecurity in the country. It is illegal and Kenyans are advised to keep away from them and their activities. Adherents to the group will be arrested and charged in court."

You didn't have to accept
that male ego
did you dear?
You don’t have to be my master,

Do you dear?

Please remove that mentality,

That i am nothing before you.

Remember,
you were created
from mere soil,
Yet I was derived
From substance
better and precious

Than the soil that gave you life.

Just beside your heart
in the throbbing of your temples
be informed dear
From you I was created,

Pure substance than soil,

That you want to place me on

And step on without care

That bone from your rib

That gave me life

Is the one you contempt now

The one still

You hit like a sack

My dear companion

Please give me a break.

Guantanamo Review Fails to address key Human Rights issues

On 22 January 2009, President Barack Obama signed three executive orders on detentions and interrogations. One of them committed his administration to closing the detention facility at the US Naval Base in Guantánamo Bay within a year, and directed officials to conduct an immediate review of the cases of the approximately 240 detainees currently held there to determine what should happen to them. As part of the executive order, the Secretary of Defense was required to undertake an immediate review of the conditions of detention at Guantánamo. The review was made public in February 2009. Amnesty International noted that the review recommended increased socialization and recreational activities for detainees, including those held in the maximum security Camps 5 and 6. The review also reported that a new outdoor recreation area for group exercise and a classroom had recently been added to Camp 6 and that further modifications were underway to provide open communal living for some detainees. While such measures are long overdue, there is concern that many detainees may not have access to such "privileges" - the report made a distinction between "compliant” and "noncompliant" detainees of whom the latter could continue to be confined to cells for 22 hours a day. According to lawyers, most detainees in Camp 6 are still held in 22 hour cellular confinement in individual sealed cells with no window to the outside, in conditions Amnesty International believes flout international human rights standards for humane treatment

Hunger strike by Guantanamo detainee;Condition Worsens

PUBLIC AI Index: AMR 51/028/2009
20 February 2009

Further information on UA 350/08 (AMR 51/156/2008, 23 December 2008) – Health concern/Legal concern
USA Ahmed Zaid Salem Zuhair (m), Saudi Arabian national, aged 44

The medical condition of Guantánamo detainee Ahmed Zuhair, who has been on hunger strike and a force feeding regime since 2005, has worsened. On a recent visit to meet him at the base, his US lawyers observed a marked deterioration in his health since they last met with him in mid-December.

According to his US lawyers in information recently filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia (DC), when they met with Ahmed Zuhair on 11 and 12 February, he was shackled to a gurney (trolley stretcher) and was repeatedly given “large quantities of painkillers by medical personnel”. Guantánamo staff informed the lawyers that Ahmed Zuhair had recently suffered a fall in his cell. He was brought to the meetings, which were held in the base's Camp Echo, from the Detainee Hospital at Camp Delta.

The lawyers have said that his pain during their meetings with him was evident and that he could not sit up: “Even though Mr Zuhair was administered painkillers, any movement of the gurney caused him to wince in pain, and his own movements were slow and limited to slight gestures”. The lawyers have also reported that Zuhair’s weight was “perilously low”: “He appeared to weigh approximately 100 pounds, his biceps were roughly the thickness of his wrists, his eyes were sunken, and his cheekbones were sharp and gaunt. Mr Zuhair was considerably fatigued and unable to speak above a whisper for the entirety of the meeting.” Ahmed Zuhair’s own account of his condition and treatment remains classified.

In a separate development, his lawyers discovered on 21 January that Ahmed Zuhair has been approved for transfer from Guantánamo. They made the discovery by chance; the US authorities did not notify them. The government has now said that the approval for his transfer was made on 23 December 2008. The Guantánamo authorities notified Ahmed Zuhair on 10 February, on the eve of his meeting with his lawyers, that he had been authorized for transfer from Guantánamo. The written notice to him states that “while your transfer has been authorized, the date of such transfer depends on the United States reaching agreement with your country of origin or another country, to accept you”. The notice stated that “negotiating these agreements can in certain circumstances take considerable time”, adding that “although the United States will attempt to transfer you as soon as possible no date has been set for your transfer”. Other detainees have been held for years since their release from the base has been approved under the administrative review scheme. Ahmed Zuhair’s lawyers have said that he “affirmatively wishes to return to his family and homeland [Saudi Arabia], where he has never run afoul of the law”.

Ahmed Zuhair has been in detention for more than seven years without charge or trial. According to his 2008 petition for habeas corpus, in late December 2001 Ahmed Zuhair was seized in a market in Lahore, Pakistan, by a dozen men in civilian clothes. He was blindfolded and taken to a house in a residential area of Lahore, where, he said, he was tortured and otherwise ill-treated. In early January 2002, he was transferred to a military facility in the capital, Islamabad, and held incommunicado there for about 10 weeks: in mid-March 2002 he was handed over to US custody and held in Bagram air base in Afghanistan. In June 2002 he was transferred to detention in Kandahar, where he was held for two weeks. He said he was ill-treated in US custody in Afghanistan, including forced prolonged kneeling and stripping during interrogations. He was transported to Guantánamo in June 2002. Ahmed Zuhair began his hunger strike in mid- 2005, to protest at his indefinite detention without charge and the conditions in which he is detained. He has been force fed since August 2005.

Ahmed Zuhair’s lawyers filed an emergency motion in District Court in late November 2008 in relation to his deteriorating health. On 22 December, Judge Emmett Sullivan ordered the authorities to allow a court-appointed independent medical expert to examine Ahmed Zuhair. He also ordered the government to release Zuhair’s medical records to his lawyers. Judge Sullivan made the decision on the grounds that Zuhair must be medically fit enough to have “meaningful access to counsel”, and so that his lawyers “are able to adequately communicate with him” in his habeas corpus challenge. On 16 January 2009, Judge Sullivan appointed the independent expert suggested by Zuhair’s lawyers to conduct a “comprehensive medical and psychiatric evaluation” of Ahmed Zuhair, and ordered that she and an independent interpreter be provided transport to Guantánamo and access to the detainee, that she be given access to all Zuhair’s medical records and records relating to his force feeding, and allowed to speak with personnel at Guantánamo regarding Zuhair’s medical and mental health and the feeding process. No further details are publicly available.

On 23 January, around the seventh anniversary of Ahmed Zuhair being taken into US custody, his lawyers filed a petition pointing out that their client “continues to languish in Guantánamo Bay without charge, trial or due process” and with no “definitive judicial determination as to the legality of his detention”. They argued that the need for the “prompt habeas corpus hearing” ordered by the US Supreme Court’s Boumediene v. Bush ruling seven months earlier was “especially pressing as he nears the fourth anniversary of his hunger strike protesting his indefinite and arbitrary imprisonment”.

On 22 January, President Obama signed three executive orders on detentions and interrogations (see: The promise of real change: President Obama’s executive orders on detentions and interrogations, 30 January 2009, http://www.amnesty.org/en/library/info/AMR51/015/2009/en). One of the orders required his administration to close the Guantánamo Bay detention facility “as soon as practicable” and to conduct a review of all the cases of detainees held there to decide what should happen to them. UA 49/09 Legal concern/Ill-treatment

USA Mohammed el Gharani (m), Chadian national, aged 22

More than a month after a US federal judge ordered that Chadian national Mohammed el Gharani be released from the US detention facility at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba, he is still held there. Taken into custody when he was a child, he has spent nearly a third of his life in US military custody. He is alleged to have been ill-treated since the judicial order for his release was handed down. He has previously been ill-treated in Guantánamo in the context of interrogations to which he has been subjected.

Judge Richard Leon on the US District Court for the District of Columbia (DC) ordered on 14 January that Mohammed el Gharani’s detention was unlawful and that he should be immediately released. El Gharani, a Chadian national who was born and brought up in Saudi Arabia, has been held at Guantánamo as a so-called “enemy combatant” since February 2002. He was taken into custody by Pakistani forces in Pakistan in late 2001, at the age of 14, handed over to US authorities and taken to Kandahar air base in Afghanistan, before being transferred to Guantánamo.

Judge Leon ruled that the evidence against Mohammed el Gharani “consists principally of the statements made by two other detainees while incarcerated at Guantánamo Bay. Indeed, these statements are exclusively, or jointly, the only evidence offered by the Government to substantiate the majority of their allegations. In addition, unlike the other cases reviewed by this Court to date, the credibility and reliability of the detainees being relied upon by the Government has either been directly called into question by Government personnel or has been characterized by Government personnel as undetermined.” “Simply stated,” Judge Leon concluded, “a mosaic of tiles bearing images this murky reveals nothing about the petitioner with sufficient clarity, either individually or collectively, that can be relied upon by this Court.” He ordered the government “to take all necessary and appropriate diplomatic steps to facilitate his release forthwith,” (see USA: Judge orders release of detainee held in Guantánamo as child ‘enemy combatant’, 15 January 2009, http://www.amnesty.org/en/library/info/AMR51/006/2009/en).

Mohammed el Gharani is held in the harsh conditions of Camp 5 of the detention facility. Camp 5 was opened in 2004 as an isolation and interrogation facility in which detainees are held for up to 24 hours a day in small cells. Amnesty International understands that Mohammed el Gharani is being allowed out into Camp 5’s exercise yard for about two hours a day, during which time he is also alone.

It is alleged that Mohammed el Gharani was subjected to repeated beatings by Guantánamo Bay’s “Immediate Reaction Force” (IRF) following the order for his release last month. Over the years of the detention operations at Guantánamo, there have been consistent allegations of IRF teams using excessive force.

Mohamed el Gharani has previously been ill-treated in Guantánamo. Some details of this were revealed in a 2008 report by the Inspector General at the US Department of Justice. FBI agents described how in 2003, when still only 16 years old, el Gharani was “short-chained”: a chain round his waist was bolted to the floor, preventing him from standing up straight. He was left like this for several hours. Another FBI agent stated that a military interrogator had ordered guards to place Mohammed el Gharani in a “stress position,” described as being “shackled on the hands and feet and then chained to the floor to force him to sit on the floor or crouch without a chair.” Left like this for several hours, el Gharani was forced to urinate on himself. El Gharani himself told investigators of another occasion when military guards chained him overnight for 12 to 16 hours. The report also revealed that the teenager had been subjected to the “frequent flyer program” of disorientation and sleep disruption and deprivation that has been used against numerous detainees in Guantánamo (see USA: From ill-treatment to unfair trial. The case of Mohammed Jawad, child “enemy combatant,” August 2008, http://www.amnesty.org/en/library/info/AMR51/091/2008/en). Mohammed el Gharani has alleged that during interrogations in 2003, he was subjected to racist abuse, physical assaults, and doused with cold water.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Under international law and standards, detention and imprisonment of a child must be used only as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time. Every child deprived of liberty shall be treated with humanity and respect for the inherent dignity of the human person, and in a manner which takes into account the needs of persons of his or her age. Under international law, states must adhere to the principle that the best interests of the child are to be a primary consideration in all actions concerning children who come into conflict with the law. However, the USA’s treatment of children labelled as “enemy combatants” has been conducted in accordance with its own perceived national security interests rather than the best interests of the child.

On 22 January, President Obama signed three executive orders on detentions and interrogations (see: The promise of real change. President Obama’s executive orders on detentions and interrogations, 30 January 2009, http://www.amnesty.org/en/library/info/AMR51/015/2009/en).One of the orders required his administration to close the Guantánamo Bay detention facility “as soon as practicable” and to conduct a review of all the cases of detainees held there to decide what should happen to them.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send appeals to arrive as quickly as possible, in your own words:

- expressing concern that Mohammed el Gharani is still detained in Guantánamo Bay, more than a month after District Court Judge Richard Leon ruled his detention unlawful and ordered his immediate release;

- expressing concern that Mohammed el Gharani is not only still in custody, but is being held in isolation in Camp 5;

- calling on the authorities to improve his conditions of detention immediately, give him increased time in the fresh air outside his cell and an end to his isolation, and allow him to telephone his family;

- expressing further concern at reports that he has been subjected to beatings by members of the Immediate Reaction Force, and calling for an investigation into these allegations and for the results to be made public;

- calling on the authorities to release him immediately to Saudi Arabia, where he resided and has immediate family, or, if this cannot be promptly arranged, to Chad, the country of his nationality, where he has extended family.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL UK : PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MONDAY 23 FEBRUARY 2009

BINYAM MOHAMED: RELEASE AND ARRIVAL TO UK WELCOMED - INQUIRY URGED

Responding to the arrival at RAF Northolt of Binyam Mohamed upon his release today from Guantánamo Bay, Amnesty International welcomed his return but called for an independent inquiry into allegations that the UK colluded in his secret detention and torture.

The organisation also called on the UK authorities to make representations for the release or fair trial of other Guantánamo prisoners with links to the UK.

Amnesty International UK Director Kate Allen said:

“It’s a huge relief that Binyam Mohamed is finally back in the UK - his release hasn’t come a moment too soon.

“It’s nothing short of a disgrace that Binyam was held without trial for nearly years, having to resort to a hunger strike to raise awareness of his plight.

“The immediate focus should now be on providing medical and other support for Binyam on his return to the UK, but we also need a proper independent inquiry into Binyam’s case and allegations of a cover-up over torture, as well as into the wider practice of rendition and secret detention.

“The UK government should also now press for the release of Shaker Aamer and Ahmed Belbacha - two other men with longstanding links to the UK - and it should assist moves to close the camp by offering ‘humanitarian protection’ to vulnerable prisoners who need a place to go to.”

Amnesty International supporters have long campaigned for Binyam Mohamed and other prisoners at Guantánamo, including by sending hundreds of “greetings cards” to him and other prisoners.

However, Binyam’s US military lawyer Yvonne Bradley recently confirmed that he has had no correspondence delivered to his cell for nearly a year, with camp guards specifically denying him what they refer to as his “fan mail”. Binyam’s lawyer has described this manipulation of Binyam’s emotions as just one example of a battery of “psychological abuse” by guards in his case.

Some 240 prisoners are still held at the prison camp, with an estimated 50 currently on hunger strike - many being force-fed. Some 60 men are known to be at risk of torture or persecution if returned to their home countries, and while the US may permit some of the men to be admitted to the US mainland the remaining detainees are likely to need “humanitarian protection” in other countries upon release.

International community fails to protect Darfur

Internally displaced women carrying water, near Nyala, South Darfur, Sudan. 7 February 2009
The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudanese government were reported to have struck an agreement on Monday that paves the way for Darfur peace talks. Amnesty International hopes the reported agreement marks a turning point in the human rights situation in Darfur. However, the organisation has demanded action, rather than words, to end six years of suffering for millions of Darfuris. The military strategy employed by all sides to the conflict in Darfur has left more than 300,000 people dead and more than 2.2 million displaced. Amnesty International has repeatedly urged all warring parties to stop targeting civilians. The deployment of peacekeeping troops by the UN more than one year ago has failed to improve the security of people in Darfur In a new report, Amnesty International has exposed the continuing crisis facing the people of Darfur and called for the joint United Nations-African Union peacekeeping force (UNAMID) to be provided with troops and essential resources, such as helicopters, that will enable it to fulfill its mandate. Despite the signing of the agreement the international community needs to redouble its efforts to protect the people of Darfur. “Promises made to the people of Darfur that they would be protected through the deployment of a peacekeeping force ring hollow; UNAMID remains chronically under-resourced and attacks against civilians, including killings, continue,” said Tawanda Hondora, Amnesty International’s Africa Deputy Programme Director. “Women are still exposed to rape and other acts of sexual violence. A climate of insecurity prevails and perpetrators act with impunity.” “The recent fighting in Muhajeriya is the latest in a series of clashes between government of Sudan forces and armed opposition groups, which led to the displacement of thousands of civilians and left scores dead.” Amnesty International has called on the UN Security Council to ensure UNAMID is provided with the essential resources that were pledged when UNAMID took over from the African Union Mission to Sudan (AMIS) at the end of 2007. “Words alone are not enough. It is of no use to deplore violence in Darfur and deploy a force that is under-equipped,” said Tawanda Hondora. “UNAMID must be enabled to protect itself as well as the people of Darfur. It is simply unacceptable that more than a year after the deployment of UNAMID, civilians still live in peril.” Amnesty International has called on countries that pledged troops and other essential personnel to UNAMID to ensure that they are adequately trained and promptly deployed to Darfur. It has also called on the wider international community, and particularly the country members of the Friends of UNAMID group, China, South Africa and Egypt, to use their influence and ensure that UNAMID is immediately provided with the military equipment it urgently requires. The USA, China, Russia, Japan, Australia, Egypt, South Africa and European Union countries, among others, have been urged to pledge and deliver helicopters and other essential military equipment to UNAMID.

New Zimbabwe government urged to prioritise human rights

Zimbabwe's President Mugabe and new Prime Minster, Morgan Tsvangirai, at signing of power-sharing deal in Harare, 15 Sept, 2008

/Tsvangirayi Mukwazhi

Zimbabwe's new unified government has been urged to place human rights at the top of its agenda when it takes office this week.

Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe is due to sign into law a constitutional amendment allowing opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai to become prime minister on Wednesday, paving the way for the men to share power.

Amnesty International has called on the new administration to follow its five-point human rights plan:

Release prisoners of conscience
The new government should immediately and unconditionally release Jestina Mukoko, Broderick Takawira, and Pascal Gonzo. It should also either promptly charge all political detainees with recognizable crimes, and ensure a prompt and fair trial for them, or release them immediately.

Provide access for human rights groups
The new government should commit itself to opening up the operational environment for all NGOs and human rights groups, political parties and independent media.

Deal with past human rights violations
The new government should publicly acknowledge all human rights violations by the previous government, commit to establishing the truth, and take effective measures to guarantee non-repetition.

Address impunity and policing
The new government should immediately end partisan policing and combat impunity for human rights violations by the security forces.

Tackle poverty
The new government should prioritise the full realisation of economic, social and cultural rights including rights to food, health, education and housing. Where it is unable to meet its minimum core obligations, it should seek international assistance.
"The inauguration of an inclusive government is an important opportunity for the ZANU-PF and the two formations of the MDC to demonstrate to the Zimbabwean people and rest of the world that they are committed to a future where human rights are truly and fully respected, protected, promoted and fulfilled," said Simeon Mawanza, Amnesty International’s Zimbabwe researcher.

The first 100 days of the new administration offers the chance for President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister-designate Morgan Tsvangirai to take concrete steps to demonstrate the commitment of the new government to human rights.

Obama’s halting of prosecution in Guantanamo welcomed by our Muslim brothers

President Obama ordered US military prosecutors in Guantanamo war crimes tribunals to halt pending cases for four months afew hours after taking office

The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) has welcomed US President Barack Obama’s suspension of prosecutions at the infamous Guantanamo Bay detention centre for 120 days.

The move is widely seen as an effort by the new Obama administration to review cases involving detainees at the cam

“President Obama should show more support to humanity by completely shutting down this prison facility,’’ a member of the council said.

“Abdulmalik hails from western Kenya, the same region as Obama’s father,’’ he said.

They say Obama has to learn from his predecessor’s mistakes, to continue enjoying the world’s goodwill.

IT IS TIME TO CHANGE THE WAY THE WORLD IS RAN.

THE CORNERSTONE
It was said,
Though still it was acclaimed,
Through all means,
It was also felt,
Everybody knew,
That the cornerstone had been stolen,

When I first heard it,
I couldn’t believe people were now aware,
Life now is no longer at ease,
Because-
The masses have been compromised,
The cornerstone has been stolen.

That fundamental support,
The fight for human rights,
Is only an attempt,
By those in dreams,
To restore the best days,
The cornerstone has been stolen,

Why can’t mothers tie their waists?
Tie them tight with lesos of struggle!
Why can’t the youth come off age?
Come off age from individualism and selfishness!
Why can’t everyone embrace brotherhood?
The cornerstone has been stolen.

Let us all arise,
Reclaim those hey-days,
When the cornerstone still prevailed,
Let us fight for our rights,
Because at the moment..
The cornerstone has been stolen.

Fundamental rights of individuals are being violated the world over,we are asking “OBAMA TO STEP IN”

For these Hungry Children:

OBAMA FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

For these Dying inmates:

OBAMA FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

For these Barbaric Leaders:

OBAMA FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

OBAMA FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

OBAMA FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

For this killing disease:

WE ARE ASKING YOU TO RECLAIM THE CONERSTONE,WE ARE ASKING YOU TO DEFEND HUMAN RIGHTS.

I believe Obama can regain seven years of lost ground on human rights

President Barrack Obama becomes the 44th President of the United states Of America.

On his shoulders,he is carrying a lot of responsibility which comes hand in hand with a lot of inherited troubles from the Bush Administration and other previous regimes.

Being an American President comes with a lot to do because it is the globe’s greatest empire with 745 military bases in 120 countries.

We have the Guantanamo Bay.

U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay is the oldest U.S. base overseas and the only one in a Communist country. Located on the southeast corner of Cuba, in the Oriente Province, the base is about 400 air miles from Miami, Florida. The terrain and climate of Guantanamo Bay make it a haven for iguanas and banana rats.

In December 1903, the United States leased the 45 square miles of land and water for use as a coaling station. A treaty reaffirmed the lease in 1934 granting Cuba and her trading partners free access through the bay, payment of $2,000 in gold per year, equating to $4,085 today, and a requirement that both the U.S. and Cuba must mutually consent to terminate the lease.

Diplomatic relations with Cuba were cut in 1961 by President Dwight Eisenhower. At this time, many Cubans sought refuge on the base. U.S. Marines and Cuban militiamen began patrolling opposite sides of the base's 17.4 mile fenceline. Today, U.S. Marines and Cuba's "Frontier Brigade" still man fenceline posts 24 hours a day.

The present situation in Guantanamo bay does not reflect the original idea of its set up and that is why it should be closed,America should leave Guantanamo Bay.

That is why you should sign this petition.

SIGN THE PETITION

We have War in Iraq.

The war in Iraq has cost $3 trillion .The Iraq war is the second largest after Vietnam . It has cost the US treasury $12 billion per month.

Obama has to end this war, this monthly $12billion can be used to improve the health standards of the American people.

The total aid and development budget for Africa is $9 billion per annum, you can imagine what it would mean if Obama recalled troops from Iraq,Africa would be given a better figure.

This also should be able to be applied to the middle east and the other needy nations.

We have the Africom Idea started by Bush.

On October 1, 2008 the Pentagon established Africom as the new US military body solely devoted to Africa. Africom ( the African Command ) has the promotion of stability as its primary goal, “to enhance our efforts to bring peace and security to the people of Africa” in Bush’s words.

The decision to establish the command was not requested by African leaders and only Liberia has offered a permanent headquarters. Consequently, Africom is currently exiled in Stuttgart, Germany.

A major campaign is waging in the US called “Resist Africom” and led by African Faith and Justice Network (www.afjn.org) who point out that the real aim of Africom is to give unprecedented access to the US military on the continent, while continuing its ideological war against terrorism and using soldiers to contain Chinese expansionist plans as well as securing oil supplies in Africa.

This is another field where Obama should be able to be wise and make the hard decisions of writting off some policies that had choking strings attached to them.

We have Afghanistan waiting.

This is more or less connected to the war in Iraq in terms of expenditure and man power loss.

Obama should stand out,and be above the obvious.

Lastly...

We have Osama on the loose.

Lets pray and Hope that Obama was built to counter Osama.

AND...............................

IF WE ARE TO REALISE MOST OF THESE WE HAVE TO START BY SIGNING THIS PETITION,IF WE HELP OBAMA BY DIRECTING HIM TO WALK OUT OF GUANTANAMO BAY IN THE FIRST 100DAYS OF BEING IN OFFICE,THEN THE REST ARE POSSIBLE.

PRESIDENT OBAMA:THE WORLD IS CALLING

Mr President

I believe you can regain seven years of lost ground on human rights.

We are asking things that are possible. In your first 100 days you can:

  • Announce a plan and date to close Guantánamo;
  • Ban torture and other ill-treatment as defined under international law;
  • Ensure an independent commission on US ‘war on terror’ abuses is set up.
These are three key points on Amnesty International’s Counter Terror with Justice checklist for your first 100 days in office. You can counter terror with justice. I will be counting on you.

CLAIMS ARE,HE NEVER DIED,DO YOU THINK TUPAC SHAKUR DIED?

Many people had hopes that Tupac would return in 7 years. And that time has come and gone, and people still think he is alive. Below are some theories that people had/have or reasons he is, or could still possibly be alive. But people just want to hold on I guess. He is the black Elvis, and they don’t want to let go. Anyways, on to some of the theories: Keep in mind these theories are NOT written by me, but submitted to me. And do not reflect my views and/or opinions.
SONG / ALBUM THEORIESAgainst All Odd“The Realist shit I ever Wrote”
1. “I disappeared in the crowd, all you seen were troops.”
1a. This could be a message to his enemies, to be on the lookout. Pac disappeared the night on Sept 7, 1996. And all that we saw were troops(cops).
2. “Gunshots to Tut, now you stuck.”
2a. I don’t think King Tut got the message. Walter “King Tut” Johnson was killed in January of 97 outside a resturaunt, victim of gunshots. He was one of the three men(the other two was Hatian Jack aka Jacques Agnant, and Jimmy Henchmen) who shot Pac in 1994 and robbed him. Later on in the hospital Tut called Pac and asked what he was still doing alive and said they would finishg the job. This is why Pac left the hospital so fast.
3. They give Tupac a 21 gun salute
Ain’t Hard 2 Find1a. The title is his way of challenging us to find him.
2. “I heard rumor I died, mudered in cold blood dramatized. Pictures of me in my final stages, you know mam cried, but that was fiction, some coward got the story twisted, Like I no longer existed, mysteriously missing, But I’m worldwide baby, I ain’t hard 2 find...”
2a. This sound like Las Vegas to me. He was murdered in cold blood, the picture him in the final stage, is that fake autopsy pic, and his mama cried, but its fiction, like a drama movie(dramatized!!!)
3.”You tried to play me, now homicide is my only payment.”
3a. Biggie tried to play him, now who is dead?
4. Breaking them off on sight, stopping lives on redlights, watch them pause as I pull my strap out my drawers, and get to dumping on their ass, like the last outlaw.”
4a. Sounds like the night Biggie died. Anyone can plan to kill someone in advance. And a red light would be easy. Your ass will have to stop sometime.
Ain’t Mad At Cha & Toss Em Up1.Why was Ain’t Mad At Cha the last video made by Tupac, and he dies in it, then his next video is Toss Em Up, by Makaveli. Then he breaks a mirror(7 years).
1a. I believe this was planned. He breaks a mirror for no reason. Unless this shows that he is cursed with having to be in hideout for 7 years, then he gets to come back in 2003.
Ambitionz Az A Ridah1. “Payoff the block, evade the cops, cuz I know they coming for me. I’ve been hesitant to reappear, been away for years, now I’m back, my adversaries been reduced to tears, question my methods?”
1a. That night in Las Vegas, no one seemed to have seened a damn thing. No matter how bad he wants to put an end to this this Puffy crap, he won’t. Its not the right time. When he finally does, his enemies will flee, but many will question his methods and why he faked his death to unite, what he calles the “Nigga Kingdom.”
Blashemy1. When the guy in the beginning says,”unless the lord does return in the next 7 days....” after 7 days, listen for Pac to say,”7 years”, and then right after he says this you hear, “don’t start that blasphemy”, and then again louder. He also starts to say follow me. He will return in 2003. He will be a leader.
2. “I’m comtemplating thoughts, wondering the thought to go, Brotha getting shot coming back resurrected.”
2a. He is plottin and wondering where to hide. He says he will get shot and come back. Year 2003.
3. “I leave this here and hope God can see my heart is pure, is heaven just another door?”
3a. Its like he is asking God’s approval, hoping God will see he means good by faking his death.

WHY SHOULD THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES OF KENYA ALLOW HIS PEOPLE TO CONTINUE BEING KILLED ON BORDERS WITHOUT TAKING ACTION?

Soldiers believed to be from the Ugandan Peoples Defense Forces(UPDF) attacked a Turkana village along the Kenya-Uganda border. These soldiers who were aboard three military choppers bombed a Turkana Town in Lokipoto sublocation, the attack left one person dead, three injured and 540 animals dead.
Why should foreign military be allowed in Kenyan soil to harm the Kenyan people?

KENYAN CATHOLICS WANT THE LATE CARDINAL MAURICE MICHAEL OTUNGA TO BE BEATIFIED.

His name invokes memories of simplicity, peace and love:Caedinal Maurice Michael Otunga.
Born in 1923 in Chepkube Bungoma and baptised in 1935 when he was 12 years old,he was the first kenyan to become an archbishop and a cardinal.
More than 6 million catholics mark his 5th anniversary with one thing in their minds and hearts:Otunga should be beatified. The beginning of the canonisation process is well within the late Pope John Paul II’s direction that there is need to wait for at least five years before one is canonisedBeatification is the first step towards being canonised (one being declared a saint)Should this be successful,it will bring the number of African Saints to 29.
He died aged 80 in September 2003.

AT FIRST HE MADE IT HARD FOR THE PRIME MINISTER TO FORM A CABINET WITH THE PRESIDENT BASING ON THE WILL OF THE ACCORD,NOW HE THINKS HE CAN DELEGATE WO

Public Service chief Francis Muthaura has set off another hidden war in Cabinet by drawing no-go zones for Prime Minister Raila Odinga while appearing to adopt a ‘condescending’ tone. The Secretary to the Cabinet, through a confidential memo to PM’s Permanent Secretary, that has raised eyebrows, again makes such references, as that which recently rocked the Grand Coalition, by emphasising to the PM the Vice-President is the “principal assistant to the President”.
The memo dated August 15, and copied to the PM, puts the running of some ministries, including hiring and firing function, in the hands of Permanent Secretaries.
Muthaura, who reports directly to the President, refers to PSs as, “the Chief Executives” of their ministries.
The idea that President Kibaki and the PM shared power as equal principals is not reflected in this memo,”

NOVEMBER 4,THE DAY WHEN AMERICA WILL HAVE A REFERENDUM AGAINST THE BUSH PRESIDENCY.

The Obama camp wants Nov. 4 to be a referendum on the Bush presidency, the closest they can come to running against the incumbent. In such elections, challengers must persuade most voters to do two things: Be open to firing the incumbent and agree the challenger is acceptable. If they succeed at both, the incumbent — or in this case, presumably, his party — loses.
This is the strategy.

IT IS CALLED THE REED DANCE BUT I PREFER CALLING IT THE GREED DANCE:KING MSWATI III IS BRACING HIMSELF ;GOD HELP THE WOMEN OF SWAZILAND.

He rules over Swaziland . . . his people live mostly in huts and survive
on just the equivalent of 50 American cents a day but that is the least of his worries, what he worries most about is his libido.
Tens of thousands of bare-breasted virgin women converge at the royal court of the King of swaziland,The ceremony lasts eight days with the King only attending the last day’s ceremony. The girls wear coloured tassels and woollen streamers denoting whether they are betrothed or not.The Princesses wear red feathers in their hair.
These young women during this ceremony bear reeds for the queen mother.
Half matching half dancing the girls advance on the court to bestow on the queen mother the reeds they were sent to cut from a river bank during the week.
It is at this time that The King is supposed to select another bride. It is rumoured that the king wants to break his father’s record of wives.
This party is organized by the King and hundreds of millions of shillings are used.
This is misuse of hundreds of millions of cash that would have been made useful in the fight against HIV/AIDS which is alarmingly high in swaziland.
Why should this be encouraged to go on in the 21st century? Why do the people of swaziland allow this to go on to their daughters?
Few women have raised their voices against the practice but they don’t get the help that should help bring and end to this traditional event.
This woman needs someone to fight for her because she has no choice.
It is the highest time that the people of swaziland helped women to stop this tradition that dehumanizes women in swaziland,it is the highest ime the international community helped the people of swaziland because if neglected this might not only be Swaziland’s problem alone but the whole world’s.

IF THE GOVERNMENT OF KENYA WANTS TO DISARM ITS NORTHERN KENYA CITIZENS,IT SHOULD BE READY TO GIVE THEM SECURITY.

In Kenya, the pastoralist communities occupy the largest percentage (over 70%) of the countries total land area. The population of the livestock keeping (pastoralist) communities in Kenya is estimated at about 20% of the total population of the country (i.e. about 6 million people out the total 30 million)1Most of these people occupy the vast Arid and Semi-Arid region of Northern Kenya. They keep cattle, camel, goat, sheep and donkeys.
The Northern Kenyan pastoralists are nomadic ethnic groups that are highly mobile. These are mainly Turkana, Samburu, Pokot, Borana, Rendille, Orma and Somali clans. They move from one area to another in search of pasture and water for their livestock. Their movements are not restricted to one area or even country as they move into and out of neighbouring countries such as Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan and Uganda. These movements are one of the major sources of misunderstanding and conflict between them and their neighbours.
The region is highly marginalised and underdeveloped as essential infrastructure such as water, livestock market, health, roads and education facilities are either too scarce or totally absent to be relied on. The vastness and remoteness of the area, inadequate road networks and scarcity of resources goes hand-in-hand with lapse in security occasioning frequent misunderstanding and conflicts among these pastoralist communities. This is normally over resources especially water and grazing land.
The conflict situation in this area is further complicated by two major issues, the regional dimension (neighbouring with other countries of East and Horn of Africa); and most importantly easy availability and continuous in-flow of small arms and light weapons from these neighbouring states.
This is reason enough to protect those deemed to be defenseless and recently some kenyans were assaulted on the northern part because some of them lacked arms, this is so unfair and the Government should be ready to deploy the military to protect its people who don’t have arms because the same government is disarming them yet the people of the neighboring countries on the borders are armed and are a threat to the kenyans living on the borders.

IS AGE LIMIT DEBATE A PLOT TO STOP RAILA FROM VYING FOR PRESIDENCY IN 2012?

What is the logic behind a move orchestrated by Imenti Central MP Mithika Linturi to put a ceiling of 65 years for anybody seeking to contest the presidency? Some leaders see the move as a thinly veiled plot seeking to block Prime Minister Raila Odinga and a few others from going for the presidency in 2012.
This young is being driven by very questionable intentions that are partisan.

The wife of Kenya's prime minister has turned down a controversial monthly allowance of $6,000 (£3,000) offered to her by the government.

Ida Odinga the wife of the prime minister of kenya thanked the state for appreciating her role, but said she did not need money for her legacy.
The decision to pay hefty salaries to the wives of the prime minister and vice-president provoked public outrage.Despite hosting many functions in the name of the govt, the premiers wife is not going to take the money and she promises that she will go on giving the people of Kenya her services irrespective of lack of a pay cheque.
This indeed is a good gesture as we all know since the common citizen is more than burdened by the hefty packages that are paid to the bloated cabinet.
Well done IDA ODINGA.

Murungaru seeks to serve Githongo suit in the media

Former Internal Security minister Christopher Murungaru is seeking the court’s go-ahead to serve a defamation suit against Mr John Githongo through the media.
On Wednesday, Murungaru filed an application at the Nairobi Law Courts to be allowed to serve the former Ethics and Governance PS through Times of London, The Guardian, The Standard and Daily Nation.
He claimed attempts were made to serve Githongo at PCS Plaza, Strathmore University and Karen during his recent visit.
Murungaru is seeking to serve the former PS with the papers through substituted service because Githongo is out of the court’s jurisdiction.
He sued Githongo in 2006 for allegedly causing defamatory statements to be published against him in relation to the Anglo Leasing scandal.
When the case came up in May 2006, High Court Judge Festus Azangalala ordered the former PS, who was in a self-imposed exile, to be served with the suit papers in the UK. Then, he ordered that he enters appearance in Murungaru’s suit within 45 days.
The former minister claims Githongo’s statements, which were published on November 22, 2005, could be understood to mean he engaged in corrupt practices and lacked integrity.
The alleged defamatory words, he argues, through his lawyer Kioko Kilukumi, could also be construed to mean he obstructed the course of justice and interfered with investigation into corruption.
The words could also mean the former minister altered or caused to be altered a statement prepared by President Kibaki regarding reshuffle of Government officers, he claimed.
Murungaru pleaded his innocence, saying he was not corrupt and had not engaged in corrupt dealings.
He also denied participating in any botched attempt to demote Githongo.
He dismisses Githingo’s corruption report, saying it consists of “conjuncture, imaginative and creative journalism laced with a fair measure of malice”.
The timing of the publication (of the report) was calculated “to inflict maximum political damage to his political career and aid the British Government in its legal battle with the plaintiff over cancellation of the plaintiff’s visa,” his lawyer argues.

JAPAN TRIP FOR REPTILES AMBUSHED:How long has this been going?

Undercover Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers impounded a consignment of snakes, geckos and spiders that were being exported to Japan without valid export documents.
The seizure at the Moi International Airport, Mombasa took place on Wednesday.
The reptiles, which were in a package labelled “live animals”, were destined for an address in Tokyo, Japan. Inside the package were ten whip spiders, ten camel spiders, one Jackson tree snake, one olive marsh snake, five brown house snakes, one cape wolf snake, five flat-snouted wolf snakes, three forest wolf snakes, three East African shovel snout snakes and three tiger snakes among others.
I wonder whether this reptile trip was above board.

MAASAI MARA IS A KEY TOURIST DESTINATION IN KENYA,THE TREASURY SHOULD NOT JUST MILK MONEY FROM IT BUT MAINTAIN IT TOO.

The extraordinary trek of 1.5 million game between grasslands in the Serengeti and the Masai Mara is included in new lists of the ‘Seven Wonders of the Modern World’. The doors the exposure open, however, should lead us beyond the traditional safari and include new activities aimed at both domestic and international audiences.
That the world famous Mara, Kenya’s most visited park, should have been the focal point for the latest tourism promotion effort is fitting. This is especially so as it also represents many of the challenges the industry faces, from infrastructure and environmental issues.A ban on new construction in the Mara by the National Environmental Management Authority until a management plan is finalised has met opposition from those who fear local communities, deprived of income from tourism activities, will resort to activities that threaten wildlife. Some suggest the use of conservation camps in this plan.

Whatever solutions stakeholders arrive at, they must allow reasonable use and protection of this national resource. Nobody wants to see situations where the wildlife is endangered. The Mara must be protected and made to produce revenue to maximum capacity by putting measures that enhance security both for the tourists and the wildlife itself.

Let us arise and move the world foward

this i write for all,my brother my sister, tis is real it will take me and you to bring a difference that mother earth eagerly awaits,to save its children.

Let us arise and move the world foward

it cuts down into our flesh,
for cutting is its hobby,
to bring down our flesh,
to mere flakes of meat,
undesirable for the desiring eye,
for the glamour has marooned,
the once admirable body,
which now is emaciated,

our pockets are emasculated,
by the massive expenditure,
From body nourishment,
most of it also in,
the embalming of the corpses,
the corpses which take long,
before burial,
so that the reverends and pilots,
should pay respect,
to the departed as they would say.

it cuts down hopes,
hopes of a clear tomorrow,
a day that will remain still,
remain enchanted never to be,
to be saved by the most-witful:the doctors,
because,..
they lack the module,
and they cant help,
but only conceit defeat.

it cares not the ages,
neither doesit care the wages,
and if you were to ask,
if it cares for race and color,
i would incontrovertibly answer,
NO!it allienates anyone anyhow,
its physique is appealing to,
everyone who isnt keen enough,
keen to use the inner eye,
that given by God to choose,
between good and bad,
for the convenience of saying,
Yes Or No!

orphanages are filled,
cemeteries built day and night,
companies robbed of skilled personnel,
others turn ro be weapons,
those of mass destruction,
just because,..
they cant afford to say goodbye,
Alone,they want to leave,
leave with many desciples,
for their comfort in hell,
just imagine!

organisanions are setting aside funds,
setting them aside for its prevention,
simply because the cure is only,
known in the world of utopia,
but this alone isnt enough!
not enough at all,
it needs your efforts and mine,
undaunted effort to say No!
and indeed mean No!
and-our No should be No against,..
the known scourge that should be...
scorned and discarded from earth.

let us all arise,
with the unity of our fore fathers,
in one will bound by the blood,
that has so far flowed,
from the bodies of many,
arise with one motive,
to drive away the monster,
let us empty our arsenal,
with the best weapons:A-B-C.
which will help us fight the,
murderer!
not forgetting the creators help,
let us all and one arise,
for its time for the revolution.

hatred is smelling in the air,
a sign that the enemy,
has taken enough for the owner to ignore,
everyone should get effronterous,
and the egocentric,

should start thinking patriotically,
for the world needs your hand,
and mine alike,in commiting this murder,
that could be a holy crime,
for the benefit of the human race,
And Alas!
salvation will come.
Then i will be happiest of them all

IS THE KENYAN MILITARY AND POLICE WAITING FOR A COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO THEIR ACTIONS BEFORE THEY OWN UP TO THE BRUTALITY THEY INFLICTED ON INNOCEN

back then Mount Elgon was a very beautiful peaciful place
Then came the SABAOT LAND DEFENCE FORCE,
and things changed.
For a long time, the Sabaot Land Defence Force (SLDF) caused fear in the hearts of the people of Mt.Elgon a District in the Western province of Kenya,in response to that, the government deployed its forces to go and help save the situation because many people were being tortured and some killed by this illegal militia, the residents and the whole republic welcomed the move, little did they know that the saviours would also turn out to be SLDF-B,i say SLDF-B because the military and police used brutalety against innocent civilians.
“You should know that the police are beating people, even those who are innocent. Men are being beaten and theywill have pain for the rest of their lives, even after the SLDF and the police are gone. Most woundings and beatingscome from the police and I would like to ask them to stay but to stop harassing people. The police cannot discoverwho is causing the problems so they decided to harass everyone. So people can say who is the bad one. They saythat they will finish the violence like this. But land is the problem and if this is not solved then how are the peoplegoing to be able to stay?”these are not my words but are the words of a kopsiro District resident, this was then and now the police and even the military deny having violated rights of the people of mount Elgon, what pains most is the military instead of helping the police,it came with added brutality,as this man from kopsiro informed, “Ever since the military came, the situation has become quieter. The military are solving the problem in one way,but in another way, not at all. Now people are in the hospital or killed by the military. We worry because of themilitary now. They can just come, beat you and hurt you forever, even if you are an innocent person.”
To make matters worse again, though this was not official, the government through its arms announced a war on the NGOs that were against the brutality of the military, they have made operation hard for these NGOs with some even being denied room of operation.
For instance if they are not guilty or never used force, why did they go to the extend of even mishandling press men in there initial stages of the operation?
Or...
“We don’t have a clinic here. When the army came here, the staff of the health centre left to other places. Some of themwere even arrested and tortured. They were arrested because the army suspected the clinical staff of helping the SLDF.”
Why did they torture and even detain some medical staff in cheptais division with the excuse that the staff offered the SLDF help?isn’t the duty of a medic to help anyone in need of medical services irrespective of prevailing situations?
Recently the head of the Doctors Without Boundaries in Kenya said they had solid evidence that can prove the military and police used undue force when dealing with the people,in this evidence not even the police commissioner can escape, from this revelation i have come to learn that it was double tragedy for the residents of Mt.Elgon because at one point they had been hit very hard by the SLDF then the would be saviors too (military and police) added salt to there wounds by maiming and killing their sons and husbands.
It is the highest time the military and the police owned up to their wrongs.
And maybe they are waiting for the formation of commissions of inquiries to probe them first as it has been the order of the day.

Not This Time Mr.John Maccain,You Have It Wrong

When John MacCain said that he had not yet chosen his running mate,he was just being insincere because he wanted to make a suprise announcement,to me senator John MacCain is a man who is full of illusions.
Can you imagine that he chose Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate?
Let me tell you why i think MacCain is a sinking ship;1)He chose to pick Mrs.Palin so that he scores on gender points,to him he thinks that by not choosing Hillary Obama would get rebellion which he never got,so,MacCain wants to unearth a rebellion from the Democrat’s supporters because he wants to remind them that Hillary clinton was not chosen second by Obama.
This is a failed attempt on the onset because Hillary came to Obama’s team with all her ammunitions and therefore none was spared to be used by MacCain against Obama.
2)When Hillary clinton contested for the party ticket, she bagged very many women voters and many believed it was time for a woman president, this is what MacCain thinks can woe the people of America,he thinks that Hillary’s supporters can shift camp overnight and join him just because he has a woman as running mate,he has forgoten that Sarah palin with due respect will never be Hillary Clinton.3)MacCain must be very crazy to imagine that Palin can have the influence like that of a former first lady,he should have asked his comrade Bush junior on whether to fight using the Hillary clinton factor,am sure George would have told him,nop nop nop nop Sarah Palin will never grant Hillary clinton’s share of the presidential votes.
Now Senator MacCain should plan faster if he is to avoid his ship from sinking,Because if it sinks too soon, millions in form of hate campaign against Obama would have been wasted so much, just like a rotten toast put in a refigrator.
My grandfather senator MacCain should should have been informed by his chief of campaign that Sarah Palin is not running for president of the United States Of America.
So expect nothing much Mr.MacCain,Sarah is just another liability in your road to whitehouse.

Mutahi Ngunyi Just Loves Controversy Nothing Else

Mutahi Ngunyi you ought to respect the girl child, we are way past the days of male chauvinism, i wonder why you decided to liken Raila Odinga to a house girl, i don’t know why men should always associate women on the lower side of the bargain.
That aside...
This nation columnist: MUTAHI NGUNYI, is a man who practices double stands, today he will say Raila is the man to unite kenya tomorrow he will say the opposite, what has been annoying most is that this man is on a personal mission (i don’t know if there is a force behind his actions) to derail the reputation of the Prime minister of Kenya.
Mutahi claims that Raila Odinga is all over doing everything and the way Mutahi wants to portray the PM is that the PM now is a housgirl doing chores delegated by the house master .
My brother you are very wrong and you need to think again, when you say that the PM is doing things haphazardly you are only but giving us questioning minds as to whether you are being somebody’s house help to tarnish the CV of the PM or you are being confused.
I want you to understand one thing Mr.Mutahi when the prime minister is everywhere he doesn’t want to please you or anyone that you might think, he is just keeping the promise of service delivery that he made to Kenyans, i know you want him to lay back and lazy around like Kibaki so that you can wait for him again in 2012 and say “Raila Odinga has nothing to show for the service he rendered kenyans while he was prime minister” when you will be campaigning for another one from your closet.
For those who don’t know MUTAHI NGUNYI,
He is a political scientist with ConsultAfrika, a research and consulting firm,he was the chief advisor of president Kibaki before the 2007 elections who pitched tent at statehouse with others so as to help their son of Mumbi secure the second term, despite this he was open in judging the post poll difficulties, some of his stands were good,
But....!
I doubt his credibility now.

Balkans Crisis,Hurricane Gustav.... Even Nature Doesn't Want McCain Presidency

McCain might have potponed his party’s convention,or decided to delay its starting time due to fear of the Hurricane Gustav,If this was the case, then it would not be the first time that John McCain has had to alter his plans.
Back in 2000, McCain had to postpone his announcement to run for President as a result of the crisis in the Balkans.
And.......
The 2008 Republican National Convention is to take place at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minneapolis from September 1 until September 4,but unfortunate enough, when Sept 1 arrived, this hurricane Gustav came on the way.
At first it was the Balkanas crisis when he wanted to announce his interest for the presidency, this he postponed then now we have Hurricane Gustav, why can’t McCain see this and save his energy sooner than later?
It is either God doesn’t want grandpa to vie for that seat or it is just bad luck.
He himself said recently to his supporters “take off our Republican hats and put on our American hats” to me this he might be a good thing in two ways,he would be urging his supporters stop politicking and help save the situation or maybe he is calling it quits;telling the republicans that he would wish to stop running on the republican ticket (which actually may be the only way out)to me General McCain is one man who still has along way to go,he should have started by asking God first if it was good for him to run for presidency before announcing it in public,am sure he wouldn’t have met the Balkanas crisis or the Hurricane Gustav.

When Circumcision Is Not Initiation

The Luhya of western Kenya initiate their youth by circumcision, normally the initiation of the Luhya community of western Kenya always comes after every two years. This takes place every August and is usually flanked with alot of traditional practices. A Bukusu circumciser from Maliki village, in Webuye Bungoma Kenya.
This year 2008 happens to be year of this cultural event, we have seen alot of drama as these initiates pass through their rite, what started as a cultural event now has started taking a dimension that is not good, just yesterday, a man was forced to have a cut, this man who happens to come from a community that doesn’t embrace the cut was ambushed and circumcised, this is turning out to be the tradition since this act is still being carried.
Funny enough,When some are asked why they force people to have the cut against their will, they claim that it was the Prime minister who commissioned them.
This should be stopped because, for us to live well in society with our neighbors, we have to respect their cultures and traditions irrespective of how we perceive them.

He has captured hearts,he has walked the talk,he wants to live the dream and most importantly,he has made history:THIS MAN CALLED BARACK OBAMA

Obama might be good in soliciting campaign funds but he looks to be good in pressing the right buttons,he wants to raise funds for helping the hurricane victims.
He has said before that he can raise volunteers for hurricane relief;while Campaigning with Joe Biden in Toledo Ohio, Barack Obama said he was ready to mobilize an army of volunteers to assist with hurricane relief in the Gulf states and could go there.
Obama has been in touch with Louisiana officials and is monitoring the situation on the ground he even stressed the need for residents to leave the area.
“There is enormous urgency in making sure that people take the evacuation seriously. I talked to Lieutenant Governor Mitch [Landrieu]. ... They are doing everything they can to execute an effective evacuation, but we need people’s cooperation,” This he said while in Lima
This man has the will, the power and the ability.

SOS mother seriously injured and former SOS child killed in separate attacks in Somalia

SOS Children’s Villages is an international non-governmental social development organisation that has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s needs and concerns since 1949. In 132 countries and territories our activities focus on children without parental care and children of families in difficult circumstances.
!!BUT IN SOMALIA THEY ARE IN DANGER!!
01/09/2008 - At 10.00 am local time on Sunday, 31 August, fighting broke out in the Medina area of Mogadishu where some of the SOS families have been relocatedHearing the shooting SOS mother Fahamu hurried to get her children inside and in the process was hit by a stray bullet in the chest. She was assisted by another co-worker, but due to the heavy fighting it was 15 minutes before they could leave for the hospital.
Once there, an SOS youth leader donated blood and Fahamu underwent surgery on Sunday afternoon. She is now conscious and on the road to recovery. The Medina Hospital is an ICRC hospital in the south of Mogadishu. The SOS Hospital is in the north of the town and is often inaccessible due to a large military presence in the area.
The SOS families were evacuated from the SOS Children’s Village (which is just opposite the SOS Hospital) last December, after the village was hit by mortar fire and an SOS family assistant was killed.
In a separate incident a former SOS youth was shot dead last Thursday evening (28 August) in Afgoye, 22 km from Mogadishu. He was visiting an SOS satellite clinic at the time when he was approached by thieves who wanted to take his mobile phone. Resisting them, he was shot in the neck and died at the SOS clinic shortly afterwards. Alas was 26 and, following his disengagement from the children’s village, had been employed as a gardener at the SOS Hospital for two years.
The SOS Clinics in Mogadishu and in Afgoye offer essential medical care mainly for mothers and children
These wonderful people are endangered.

WE WANT HIS SKULL BACK,WE WANT HIS ARTEFACTS BACK.

Descendants of the late Koitalel Arap Samoei (The Nandi Leader )son of Kimnyole who was killed by the British colonialists in 1905 have petitioned the government of Kenya to have his skull and other artefacts taken by the British returned back to them, the artefacts that have not been given back to them include;Koitalel’s traditional stool, his sandals and ornaments. This comes after they reclaimed some of Koitalel’s tools that had been taken by the British in 2004,among what they have since received is his two walking sticks.
In their quest for the property of their Legend they also want the government to help them complete the construction of a mausoleum in Nandi Hills Town in his rememberence.

The Chair Of The Kenya National Commission Of Human Rights Is Innocent

I wonder why many politicians want to demonise the KNCHR over the issue of the figures behind the post election violence.
The very guilty of the imorality that rocked the country(politicians) want to attack an independent body that has been keeping them on check, for instance what is wrong with the commission if it has produced a list that is not similar to a previous one that was produced by them?Dont these politicians know that in life or in areas where reports are concerned we will always have a final copy that is reached from a series of investigations/dont they know for instance that he KNCHR must have done their homework for them to clarify the different names that were suspect?
It is highest time these hypocrites gave Mrs. Jaoko (KNCHR chairperson)a breathing space.

Kenya Govt Should Save Maasai Mara

Kenya’s iconic “Maasai Mara” is a crown jewel of Kenya’s tourism industry. It is a haven for migrating wildebeests that come rushing from the nearby nations and was recently considered as a world’s “seventh wonder. But the wildlife haven has seen a sharp reduction in the wildebeests because of over-grazing, farming and mass tourism.

Though, Maasai Mara national park is a protected area the ecosystem around it is privately owned. In 2000 the Kenya govt moved to subdivide land into small plots for Maasai families, the newly-acquired notion of land ownership has led to tensions between neighbors encroaching to find pasture for their livestock.
Whereas restricted for grazing in their shriveled estates, many Maasais opted for wheat farming or simply sold their plots to developers. And both outcomes contributed to choking the natural habitat of the lions and elephants so prized by the world’s tourists.
The Maasai had to make a choice because the pastoralist lifestyle was no longer sustainable. The wildlife has one of the best exotic products in the world and it firmly needs commercial and philanthropic models to make the conservancy viable.
It is high time the govt took serious measures to protect the vulnerable species in this park by protecting the park and its entire ecosystem.

These are the Districts that were curved from existing ones by the KIBAKI administration in pre-poll times, these to my understanding were a political tool to win the votes of these specific regions despite the fact that this aim was not achieved.

BUT ..............

WHAT DO WE HAVE NOW?

after the commissioning of these Districts we can see anything to show for them,we don't see the required administrative structures that are supposed to be in these Districts and mark you it is now almost a year since some of them were formed.

My question is, WHEN WILL OUR LEADERS START BEING OBJECTIVE ABOUT WHAT SHOULD BE DONE FOR THE CITIZENS OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA?

Finally it is Barack Obama and Joe Biden Obama-Biden '08!

When Barack Obama said he was running for white house, not many people took him seriously, but it later emerged that he was the favorite in the white house duel, for quite along time now people have waited for Obama's No. 2 and today,on the 23rd of August 2008 the President to be has named his choice publicly ,Joe Biden a veteran lawmaker and foreign policy expert brings to the ticket a very strong back-up and also a very good combination.

Obama-Biden '08!

Now we don't expect the attacks on Obama on foreign policies issues because as supporters of the awaited president of the United States Of America,we know that we have already passed that bridge.

!!!!!!! GO OBAMA GO!!!!!!

KENYA TESTS POSITIVE FOR OIL BUT THE BIG TEST IS YET TO COME TO KENYA W HEN THE OIL HUNGRY STATES START MAKING THEIR BIDDINGS FOR THE CONTROL.

Having tested positive for oil,Kenya now enters the list of target countries in terms of prospects by the energy hungry nations.

On the list of energy hungry nations,we have USA and China, what we are yet to see is how this two key players will approach the oil issue in Kenya.

What i hope is that the Kenyan people will be given the say as far as exploiting the commodity is concerned.

And we pray that this discovery of oil does not divide Kenya as it has done to many Oil nations.

MARTHA KARUA DESERVES HER SPACE AND PACE,GO KARUA GO!!!

Before we went to the polls,we had three groups, the ODM,PNU and ODM-K.In what i have to say about Martha Karua i want to exempt the ODM because there is no one in ODM who is competing with Martha.

Iwant to remind some friends of mine alittle bit of history, during this time the PNU'S main objective was to unite as a party of political parties and help re-election of Mwai Kibaki;in my reasoning or the reasoning of the time PNU'S main Agenda was to sell Kibaki to the kenyans and this was evident when we came to party nominations,i remember that there almost occured a problem in the PNU concerning individual parties that had affiliation to Mwai Kibaki but never wanted to part with the identity of their respective parties, then it was agreed that the parties making PNU'S main goal, was to be together at the presidential level so as to fight for Kibaki but on matters of the constituency and civic leaders i understand it was agreed that parties will field their own candidates despite previous campaigns by George Nyamweya who was campaigning for a unilateral mode of nominations which required members either to run on a PNU ticket or forget headquater support (George Nyamwea happens to be on the same drive now though he was defeated by Karuas and Kombos)
In my reasoning PNU as a party had not been created in anticipation for 2012 but only 2007 and so after installing Mwai it was supposed to close shop.

WHY AM I SAYING ALL THIS?

I want to assume that now since the PNU achieved its goal of re-electing Mwai even if it was through a back door or so,it has achieved its goal and indeed those who are now crafting means of sustaining PNU are not genuine in their quest, they are simply being misused by a specific group which thinks it has a right to leadership in Kenya.

Its outright madharau for a loser in the previous election to come and start fighting the very people who fought for Kibaki to achieve power in whichever case.
That was for the PNU.

Now lets have a look at ODM-K.

In Kalonzo musyoka's persuit to get to a higher office more than that of the common minister that he used to be,he decided to break ranks with Agwambo so that he would have a higher bargaining power in the political market, what he deed thereafter was to court Mwai and make a private MOU which we saw although he kept denying that he had not met the then PNU aspirant for president. As time passed and we went to the polls actually the election placed him where he belonged and when the poll results were rejected by the Kenyans he was swift to declare his alliegence to Mwai by defending his presidency or his win for that matter in the scuffle at KICC,this he deed very fast so as to fulfill his promise to Mwai as before the polls and it did auger well for him because he was named Vice President (imagine taking Julia Ojiambo and Daniel Maanzo for a ride all that time) after taking up that office he was vocal in fighting against the ODM struggle and in so doing he was clearcutting his personality of a political materialist because in his campaign we had seen and heard how he was against working with Kibaki. (hypocricy indeed)

WHY THEN DID I BRING STIVO INTO THIS?

This man of Ukambani wants to make a living in spoilling for others, just wait and see how he plans to do that.

I HAVE COME FROM VERY FAR,NOW I WANT TO HIT ON THE NAIL:

Martha Karua was a major defence captain in the Kibaki troops when he was about to throw in the towel and concede defeat, during this time George Nyamweya was a loser somewhere in his constituency and was nursing the wounds inflicted to him by his constituent's votes,in this time he never was a challenge to anti-Kibaki forces, when i saw the other day on TV George Nyamweya giving an ultimatum to PNU affiliates either to comply with their plan to assimilate affiliates to one PNU party or face the axe from their respective constituency offices,i was wondering how on earth he would have the audacity to dare people who had been given a mandate by their constituents unlike him who was nominated to parliament, secondly i was astonished that he would do that even to those people who had fought for Kibaki to maintain his stay in office when he was almost shown the door!

you know sometimes people can play God and that is very very bad!!!

AND....

KALONZO MUSYOKA:
To me it seems that Kalonzo musyoka has already forgotten what he did to Raila,in PNU he was welcomed into the starting list of the game and now he wants to put the starting players on bench, when he came to ODM he wanted to replace Agwambo but the son of Oginga wouldn't allow that now he was invited as a guest into the PNU and now he thinks he can run the affairs of the party including choosing affiliation with specific people in preparation for a 2012 takeover. And in so doing he is repeating what he did in 2007.

UHURU KENYATTA :
To me it seems Jomo's son will never grow up,in 2002 Moi wanted to feed him on a silver spoon but it never was,in 2007 he was about to clearcut his role in kenyan politics when he was supporting ODM but he faltered that and to make it worse he spoilt the soup by resigning as the official leader of the opposition, this made him never to be trusted by kenyans because previosly kenyans thought he would wake up and rise against the tribal chains (if Uhuru would have stuck with ODM he would be a stronger figure because he would have risen from the tribalistic bracket and even the Rutos would be having a problem with him and something else KANU would be even stronger)
Then he joined Mwai with a hope of one day succeeding him,in this he was playing by the order set by Jommo kenyatta,Moi and even Mwai:the order of creaming leaders which will never be democratic.
AND now Uhuru still is waiting for an elders hand or even signal for him to behave like a grown up because he is still depending on the influence of his father and his father's friends and recently on that list we have president Kibaki.
FORGETING THAT NATURAL JUSTICE WILL ALWAYS CATCH UP WITH HIM.

Now all these people want to sit on Karua's head,to PUSH her down the table so that she isnt seen by the world.
I have a feeling that they have already coiled their tails because they know Martha not only has an appeal to the house of mumbi but also her record as the stern defender of Kibaki gave her credit long time back.

My advise to Martha is that never let anyone stop you even if you know your bid is alittle bit premature.

AND MY VERDICT:

1)Uhuru Kenyatta should grow up and start having personal drive instead of always waiting for somebody's back to use in climbing a wall.

2)Kalonzo Musyoka should go back to ukambani and work for his constituents because he hasn't done much for the people and he shouldn't forget that he is partly the reason why Kenyans died in the post poll era.

3) Nyamweya should shut up and try to work for his election to the August house instead of always waiting for nominations.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADIBA

Mzee Mandela, your coming to this world was a blessing to many, you are the best example of what leadership should be,and in you i see what really Africa is;A HOME OF THE INTELLIGENT SPECIES OF HUMAN BEINGS.
After you detention people lost hope but you gave them a reason to fight for,you gave them a lifeline and that was the best weapon that an African would have at that time since guns were not ours, when you were out of detention you brought happiness and jubilation, when you said you were stepping down many wanted to cry, they wanted to die,because...they wanted you to lead them but you had another life to cover you had to leave, you had to give the young a chance to lead, you had to complete your cycle and for that the whole world is proud of you.
And it is with my sincere happiness and gratitude that i wish you a happy birthday MADIBA. May you live to see your dreams for Africa achieved.

May GOD give you strength so that you continue giving the world leadership.

JUSTICE WAKI WE ARE WAITING FOR YOU.

All kenyans will be very happy when the Waki commission closes business with a report and recommendations that will give answers to the many questions that we have wanted to know all this time, major in the list being an explanation on why excessive force was used by police.

Despite the awaited results we are also waiting for transparency in their presantation and lastly we want to wait and see if the commission will fulfill its mandate or it will be just like all the inquiry commissions set up before because you know there is always a precedent.

We ask parliament to be vigil and make sure that all the results of the Krigler,Majid and Waki commissions be meaningful for their purpose........................
Then indeed Kenyans will be proud of the August house.

COME CLEAN MR. KIMUNYA. YOU MIGHT BE OUT BUT WE STILL NEED ANSWERS

for kimunya to have said that the whole of the executive knew of the dealings at Grand regency is not a bad taste thing but for him to claim that that is the only reason for him to keep demanding for the residnition of thePM is not fair since the president too had prior knowledge of the events.

On a differeent account i think he did what he had to do atleast to save the Kibaki presidency,If kibaki would have relented to the voice of the parliament then we would have known that it was not His hand that never wanted to get down to work but rather what we have known to be sluggishness of the African Heads of state but now we have a case where the would be sacrificial lamb must be sacrificed to save the presidency....

this i say because if Kimunya would not have resigned then we would not have averted a vote of no confidence against the government of president Kibaki.

Last i want Kimunya to know that he will not bank on telling the nation that the PM knew about the sale because even Kenyans had known about the sale but had a questioning interest in the manner the deal was sealed,it only left many with benefit of doubt, not to know what was eaten by who and on which plate.

MUTAHI NGUNYI YOU ARE WRONG

I read some time back in the papers mutahi nginyi misleading the kenyans,he was saying that the president would at any time dissolve the parliament thus indirectly firing the PM he will have given the sitting MPs an uphill task of re-campaigning,this he sited as the reason why the ODM wing is powerless in decision matters in the coalition,he further argued that the president had nothing to lose in the long run and he would choose to appoint his own PM because there is a clause in the constitution that gives him those powers.....that said......i want to remind Mr Mutahi Ngunyi that He forgot something very vital in his presantation to the people of kenya,he forgot that KIBAKI is only president because of the peace agreement,he further forgot that if the coalition government is to be dissolved we would not have a president of the republic of kenya because his presidency was inclusive because Raila wanted peace and because we could not afford to lose more lives in the post poll viollence and his presidency would be rendered null if he dissolved the government because his presidency is also binded by the accord and without it his presidency would still be disputed because it is assumed that he stole it from Raila.

Mutahi Ngunyi should not just bend in making people see that the PM got a raw deal instead he should be advising on the measures that should be taken to cud the Grand regency saga so as to avert the looming danger in the coalition because believe me you if this government is to be dissolved by the president,we will go for fresh elections and that Kenya might go back to the dark post poll days and this time round i believe it will be worse because it shall be as if some group of people will have taken others for granted for so long and would not appreciate sacrifices made by the rest.

Mutahi Ngunyi i still have issues with you..........The accord stipulates that the Government of Kenya will be run by the President and the premier and that to me means that if the government is going down it is both going down but not only the PM BECAUSE THE PM IS PART OF THE GOVERNMENT.

it is highest time people appreciated the sacrifices made by others,

It is highest time people spoke the truth.

GOD SAVE THE COMMON MWANANCHI.

AFRICAN STATES NEED REFORMS IN GOVERNMENT STRUCTURES

IN KENYA:

Just after the DISPUTED General election in Kenya, the country fell into a state that none has ever conteplated facing,we saw stealing of votes and immediately after that there was an eruption of violence national wide and you might have thought it was the Bomb in Hiroshima Japan Because this violence was widespread in the whole republic with everybody saying NO! to the outright stealing of the leadership of the people,we saw looting of shops, killing of innocent people by police, neighbours revolted against each other and all that you can remember that took place....in this i see a conflict not only fueled by the election outcome but also by the incom inequality that rocks our country, for instance am seeing the man who stole from the supermarket in Kisumu never stole because he had been denied a chance of being led by the president he chose but rather he stole because he has been living without yet some people who are few have been living with plenty so to him the target was where there was ready access and so to say where he deemed right for his purposes of stealing because they wouldnt steal from fellow peasants since they have been living in the same world....They were tasting the world of the privilledged, they wanted to see whether living away from the tradition of one meal a day would give them energy to face the facts of life "loosing the presidency" then i can also add that there was need to take what was taken from the because you will agree with me that the owners of those supermarkets dont pay the locals or rather their workers well so if one got the opportunity of getting something from a person who has been oppressing him/her at work,he/she will fall for it with both hands. AND THIS IS SIMPLY BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT CANNOT FIGHT FOR THE RIGHTS OF THESE WORKERS BECAUSE THOSE WHO ARE SUPPOSEDS TO FIGHT FOR THEM ARE GIVEN SOMETHING SMALL TO COVER UP THEIR WRONGS.

AM TALKING ABOUT INCOME INEQUALITY AND BAD GOVERNANCE IN AFRICA.

I will give good illustrations in the next context.

IN SOUTHAFRICA:
Back in 1948, just when the Apartheid Nationalist government was coming to power, Alan Paton published Cry the Beloved Country, one of the most beautiful and moving books ever to come out of Africa. It told the story of a pastor from rural Zululand who visits Johannesburg in search of his delinquent son. Sixty years later, as I asses foreigners fleeing Cape Town's xenophobic mobs, I sense there's more than enough material to write another African epic in similar vein.

This is it;
I imagine there will be three characters, whom I'll call Z, D and W for now. Z will grow up in rural South Africa. His father will be a migrant labourer on the mines and his mother will die a slow death from HIV / Aids. As a child he will trudge five kilometres down the dusty road to the primitive school room. When his mother dies, he takes a bus to the big city where he is set down in the middle of a slum shanty town. A cousin allows him to sleep on a piece of cardboard in his shack. When the winter rains come, he pulls a garbage bag over his blanket to shield himself from the leaks.

Z is always hungry. At first he goes and stands by the roadside where the building foremen pick up labour for the day. Sometimes he's lucky, sometimes not. Maybe, out of desperation he joins a gang and hijacks a car in the affluent suburbs? When he's really lucky, he can spend an evening in the shebeen nursing a beer, tapping his foot to the local beat, watching a government minister pontificating on TV out of the corner of his eye.

Round him people are complaining. The government promised jobs and houses but nothing materialised. The fat cats with the right political connections spend their week-ends driving up and down the streets in their flashy cars, flaunting their wealth. And then there are all the foreigners from across Africa who undercut them in the labour marketplace or who own the only shop in the township and charge high prices.

D will also grow up in a rural area, only in Central Africa. He finishes school and trains to be a mechanic. One day his life is turned upside down when marauding militia shoot his parents, press-gang his brother and rape his sister. He decides to head for the peaceful El Dorado of South Africa. The journey is full of incidents. Long hours of walking along dusty tracks. The occasional lift on the back of a lorry. Odd jobs along the way. Dodging the border guards.

He reaches a South African city and finds some fellow Central Africans who offer him a spot in their lean to. His English is poor but he learns that his smile will earn an extra tip when he helps drivers to park in the centre of the city. A local restaurant owner is taken with his charm and offers him a job waitering to his many overseas guests who welcome someone who can speak French. He stands in long queues endlessly to get a work permit and is only successful when he pays a bribe. His skin is darker than that of the locals so he has to be careful when taking the train or the taxi back to the squatter camp..

W is a teacher in Zimbabwe, battling against the odds to provide children with the first rate education for which the country was renowned not so long ago. To make ends meet, she volunteers to be an election agent and is thrown into prison for a few days when the locals vote for the opposition party. She comes out to find her father has been beaten up by a bunch of thugs and decides the time has come to head South to where he can get proper medical treatment and she a secure job. They too end up in a squatter camp and she is snapped up to teach in a local school.

Somewhere in the book, of course, Z, W and D will meet up. Maybe Z will be part of the mob who, in their frustration, pick on the foreigners as the only ones around weaker than themselves and D is one of their targets? Maybe D finds W cowering behind a shack hiding from the crowd and helps her to safety? Maybe a romance develops between W and Z and it's not popular with their neighbours? The possibilities are endless but one thing's for sure, it's going to be a real tear jerker - and based on the real life experiences of so very many extraordinary Africans.

In SouthAfrica i want to believe that whoever attacked the neighbour in the xenophobic saga did not do justice to the victim, but also let us check the root causes of certain problems because if you are to sit down and evalluate these issues you will realise that it all comes to leadership and the political trends,If we want peace in Africa we should start by correcting our government structures that dont favour the common man.One day someone will write this book.

Parliamenterians have made the job easier for the prime minister and the president.

Kuddos members of the house, you have indeed given the prime minister and the president easy time in chasing Kimunya from treasury.

In your motion of no-confidence,even Kibaki has no power to turn the decision of the house around,he has to concede and ask the minister to step aside since by law it would be funny to say that the president will sack the minister because parliament already did that for him and his is a passive role.

we need this kind of response to all corrupt individuals of the coalition and then..............
............
WE DEMAND THAT KIMUNYA BE PROSECUTED AS PER THE LAW OF KENYA...TOGETHER WITH HIS ACCOMPLICES IN HIS TRADE.

This is His Excellency The President of the republic of Kenya 2040

This is a brief profile of the African Statesman who went against the African tradition.

Profile: Nelson Mandela .

Mandela has been actively involved in the fight against HIV/AidsNelson Mandela remains one of the world's most revered statesmen, who led the struggle to replace the apartheid regime of South Africa with a multi-racial democracy.
Despite many years in jail, he emerged to become the country's first black president and to play a leading role in the drive for peace in other spheres of conflict. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.

Since stepping down as president in 1999, Mr Mandela has become South Africa's highest-profile ambassador, campaigning against HIV/Aids and securing his country's right to host the 2010 football World Cup.

Mr Mandela - diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2001 - has also been actively involved in peace negotiations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and other African countries.

He has also encouraged peace efforts in other areas of the world.
Mr Mandela, 85, explained his decision to withdraw from public life, by a desire to spend more time with his family and friends and engage in "quiet reflection".
Raised by royalty

Mr Mandela was born in 1918 into the Madiba tribal clan - part of the Thembu people - in a small village in the eastern Cape of South Africa.

Mandela was kept on Robben Island for 18 years
Born Rolihlahla Dalibhunga, Mr Mandela was given his English name, Nelson, by a teacher at his school.

His father, a counsellor to the Thembu royal family, died when Nelson Mandela was nine, and he was placed in the care of the acting regent of the Thembu people, chief Jongintaba Dalindyebo.

Joined the ANC ;
He joined the African National Congress in 1943, first as an activist, then as the founder and president of the ANC Youth League.

Eventually, after years in prison, he also served as its president.
He married his first wife, Evelyn Mase, in 1944. They were divorced in 1957 after having three children.

Mr Mandela qualified as a lawyer and in 1952 opened a law practice in Johannesburg with his partner, Oliver Tambo.
Together, Mr Mandela and Mr Tambo campaigned against apartheid, the system devised by the all-white National Party which oppressed the black majority.

Charged with high treason ;
In 1956, Mr Mandela was charged with high treason, along with 155 other activists, but the charges against him were dropped after a four-year trial.
Resistance to apartheid grew, mainly against the new Pass laws, which dictated where blacks were allowed to live and work.
In 1958, Mr Mandela married Winnie Madikizela, who was later to take a very active role in the campaign to free her husband from prison.

Goes underground ;
The ANC was outlawed in 1960 and Mr Mandela went underground.

The former political foes shared the Nobel Peace Prize
Tension with the apartheid regime grew, and soared to new heights in 1960 when 69 black people were shot dead by police in the Sharpeville massacre.
It was the end of peaceful resistance and Mr Mandela, already national vice-president of the ANC, launched a campaign of sabotage against the country's economy.

He was eventually arrested and charged with sabotage and attempting to violently overthrow the government.
Conducting his own defence, Mr Mandela used the stand to convey his beliefs about democracy, freedom and equality.

"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities," he said.

"It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."

Life sentence ;
In the winter of 1964 he was sentenced to life in prison.
In the space of 12 months between 1968 and 1969, Mr Mandela's mother died and his eldest son was killed in a car crash but he was not allowed to attend the funerals.

He remained in prison on Robben Island for 18 years before being transferred to Pollsmoor Prison on the mainland in 1982.
As Mr Mandela and other ANC leaders languished in prison or lived in exile, South Africa's black township children helped sustain the resistance.
Hundreds were killed and thousands were injured before the schoolchildren's uprising was crushed.

Release campaign ;
In 1980, Mr Tambo, who was in exile, launched an international campaign to release Mr Mandela.
"Only free men can negotiate. Prisoners cannot enter into contracts "
Nelson Mandela had said.

The world community tightened the sanctions first imposed on South Africa in 1967 against the apartheid regime.
The pressure produced results, and in 1990, President FW de Klerk lifted the ban on the ANC, and Mr Mandela was released from prison.

The ANC and the National Party soon began talks about forming a new multi-racial democracy for South Africa.

Clashes with Inkatha ;
But violent clashes broke out between supporters of the Inkatha Freedom Party, a Zulu group led by Chief Buthelezi, and ANC supporters.
Despite attempts to resolve the problems through talks, the violence escalated and the Inkatha targeted ANC strongholds, with support from the white police force.

Relations with Mr de Klerk grew tense as the violence persisted, but the two leaders continued to meet sporadically, in an attempt to stop the bloodshed.
In 1992, Mr Mandela divorced his wife, Winnie, after she was convicted on charges of kidnapping and accessory to assault .

Nobel Prize for Peace ;
In December 1993, Mr Mandela and Mr de Klerk were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Five months later, for the first time in South Africa's history, all races voted in democratic elections and Mr Mandela was elected president. The ANC won 252 of the 400 seats in the national assembly.

Mr Mandela's greatest problem as president was the housing shortage for the poor, and slum townships continued to blight major cities.

He entrusted his deputy, Thabo Mbeki, with the day-to-day business of the government, while he concentrated on the ceremonial duties of a leader, building a new international image of South Africa.
In that context he succeeded in persuading the country's multinational corporations to remain and invest in South Africa.

Steps down ;
Mr Mandela gave up the presidency of the ANC in December 1997 in favour of Mr Mbeki, the successor elected unanimously by the party caucus.
The following year, on his 80th birthday, Nelson Mandela married Graca Machel, the widow of the former president of Mozambique.

He stepped down as president after the ANC's landslide victory in the national elections in June 1999, in favour of Mr Mbeki.
Following his retirement he continued travelling the world, meeting leaders, attending conferences and collecting awards.
Over the last five years his public appearances have gradually become less frequent and mostly connected with the work of the Mandela Foundation, a charitable fund that he founded.

Possibly his most noteworthy intervention of recent years came early in 2005, following the death of his only son, Makgatho.
In a country where taboos still surround talking about the Aids epidemic, Mr Mandela announced that his son had died of Aids, and urged South Africans talk about Aids "so to make it appear like a normal illness".

This was Nelson Mandela.

TRACING THE ROOTS OF A DIAMOND OF AFRICA.

1918 - Born in the Eastern Cape
1956 - Charged with high treason, but charges dropped
1964 - Charged again, sentenced to life
1990 - Freed from prison
1993 - Wins Nobel Peace Prize
1994 - Elected first black president
1999 - Steps down as leader

After the 1956 charges were dropped, mandela met with fresh allegations in 1964.

1964: Nelson Mandela jailed for life.

The leader of the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa, Nelson Mandela, has been jailed for life for sabotage.
Seven other defendants, including the former secretary-general of the banned African National Congress (ANC), Walter Sisulu, were also given life prison sentences.

Crowds gathered silently outside the court building in Pretoria's Church Square waiting for the verdict to be handed down. Hundreds of police patrolled the area.
The Rivonia trial - named after the suburb of Johannesburg where several of the defendants were arrested - began eight months ago, with Mandela, 46, and his co-defendants proudly confessing their guilt to plotting to destroy the South African state by sabotage.

As members of the ANC - the main African nationalist movement - they have campaigned for an end to the oppression of black South Africans.
But the movement was banned in 1960 following the Sharpeville massacre and campaigners decided they had no choice but to resort to violent means.
Struggle for equal rights .

Mandela - a lawyer by training - told the court earlier: "I do not deny that I planned sabotage. I did not plan it in a spirit of recklessness nor because I have any love of violence. I planned it as a result of a calm and sober assessment of the political situation that had arisen after many years of tyranny, exploitation and oppression of my people by the whites."

His co-accused included: Walter Sisulu, Dennis Goldberg, Govan Mbeki, Raymond Mhlaba, Elias Mosoaledi, Andrew Mlangeni - all ANC officials and Ahmed Kathrada, the former leader of the South African Indian Congress.
Lawyer for the defendants, Harold Hansen QC said: "These accused represent the struggle of their people for equal rights. Their views represent the struggle of the African people for the attainment of equal rights for all races in this country."
But the judge, President Quartus de Wet, said he was not convinced by their claim to have been motivated by a desire to alleviate the grievances of the African people in this country.

Judge de Wet said: "People who organise revolution usually plan to take over the government as well through personal ambition."
However, he stopped short of the imposing the supreme penalty of death.
The convicted men were cheered as they left court in a police lorry. The crowd was dispersed without any serious incident.

This was Nelson mandela.

KIMUNYA:WHOM DO YOU THINK YOU ARE FOOLING?

Amos kimunya showed symptoms of the deadly incubus when he showed bias when he was dealing with banks some time in December, during that time he was exempting Equity bank from publicizing its owners. This deadly incubus namely corruption.

What has just happened is that Kimunya has tested positive for the Corruption virus and it is advisable that we keep him out of our treasury the soonest time possible to avoid him from spreading the virus further.

It was not noble for instance when kimunya manipulated the staff in the lands ministry to effect the transfer of the title that was grand regency's,here Kimunya showed that some ministers can siphon powers from their God fathers and use it to intimidate the functionality of another ministry.

Is kimunya the minister for lands or is he the minister for finance or if i may ask is he the president of the republic of Kenya? If you can get my question well you will understand the essence of me asking them and this simply meant, was the president anywhere near the behaviour of Kimunya?was he used to armtwist the staff at the lands ministry?

ONLY AMOS KIMUNYA WILL TELL US.

THEN THE KENYANS WILL GIVE THEIR VERDICT.

we are proud of you sir

Iam very happy with the way the Right Honourable prime minister Raila Odinga is handling African affairs, just yesterdday we saw him championing the empowerment of African states to harness industrialization in the Economic summit,he is now on the frontline of the fight against the dictatorship of Robert mugabe, indeed am proud of him for many reasons:

1-He is finally bringing out a leader who kenyans have been waiting for a long time,a leader who doesnt sit on the fence and assumme everything will be okay,he is being a true African statesman just like our beloved Mandela was he is on the forefront of fighting the brutality of Mugabe something that many African leaders have been fearing to do due to lack of courage and forcus.Odinga has proved to the world that he has what it takes to lead East Africa,(East Africa is on the move to be one nation).

2.Am proud of him because he is forcused on the betterment of service provision to the Kenyan people, this we can all see from the way he is calling for a one stop shop for the delivery of service by the government which is to the interest of the people.

3.He is finally taking us back to where we were supposed to be,his sitting with the two groups that were governing the football in the country in conflict has brought wonders to the spot adding to his personall interest in the sport,we can now see why The Harrambee stars are shining and if you will agree with me i will be very happy,it all comes to the commitment of the premier and his minister of sports.

i have this to say.... Am proud of you Mr.Primeminister.

This is His Excellency The President of the republic of Kenya 2040

JUDGE KRIGLER SHOULD HELP KENYANS REALISE THEIR DREAM

SouthAfrican judge krigler should listen to every kenyan and act according to the complaints and wishes of the kenyan people as presented to his commission,if he is to realise the fruits of what his commission was created for then he should not be ready to be cowed by Hon. Kibaki or even Hon. Raila for that matter and this goes way upto the time when he shall be winding up and presenting his findings.

It is to the interest of the Kenyan people that Krigler and his commissioners give the common mwananchi a keen hearing.

AND.........

While you work judge, remember that now all the kenyans are waiting for you,we want to know what went wrong with our quest for change. We need the truth and it is only the truth that will settle our hearts, its only the tru8th that will bring peace to Kenya because we dont want to see any inertia force go active.

I wish you success judge Krigler but remember,...NOBODY will accept cooked findings from you.

WHO IS FOOLING WHO?????

Our Kenyan Mps want to make policies but not to live by them.

It is absurd that some members of parliament dont want their allowances to be taxed, this is very bad for this century, whereas they want to be seen as helping their constituents, they dont want something small deducted from their hefty pay cheques yet they still want us to believe they went to parliament to serve our interests.

ALL I WANT THESE MPS TO know is that 2012 isnt far and we are watching everything keenly.

This is His Excellency The President of the republic of Kenya 2040

CAN THE AFRICAN LEADERS STAND UP?

Morgan has done a great justice to the people of zimbabwe by pulling off that run off,in doing so he wont be part of the mugabe downfall because that man is going down and he should go alone.

If morgan would have participated in that re run with the kind of manipulation already empolyed by mugabe he would have done the zimbabweans alot of injustice since he would have denied them a chance to be ruled by him.

i call upon all the African statesmen if indeed they are statesmen to come in now and say no to Mugabe. They should let Zimbabwe down at her hour of need they should all stand up and let us see the leadership in them.

I commend Kenya's Prime minister Right Honourable Raila Odinga for putting it in white and black and setting the pace for his fellow African leaders and now is their turn to follow suit and do the necessary.

we have lost two great leaders, there is no way the ODM can replace them. this fateful plane crash that killed Hon.kones and laboso stole from us very promising leaders.

this tradition of going on with plane crushes that would be avoided must be stopped.
the government must investigate that crush to the best of its ability.

one great a man.

I said once that great men are humble peolple who have a great vision for all.

Barrak Obama,one great a man.

This is His Excellency The President of the republic of Kenya 2040

Congratulations Mr.President

First of all let me start by congratulating our young man from Kogelo who is moving the world, well done Senator Obama you have fought a good fight in the Democratic race and now we want you to fight with all the strength that you are remaining with in the november poll.

If there is a man who i can proudly stand and shake his hand then it is this son of Kogelo land, imagine how a humble begining can end so honourably like this,to me am seeing a David Vs Goliath, here Obama was short of the sources of finance in the begining but time proved that even Davids stone that felled the Goliath was better than the Goliaths weaponry and this i should say is History in the making.

I said earlier that the Obama vs Hillary battle was a replica of the Raila vs Kibaki one.

How is it a replica of the Raila and Kibaki race?...When Raila said he would vie forb presidency many said he wasnt serious and that he wouldnt make it,they said that a jaluo cant rule kenya and many other wordings that my memories dont permit me to remember,but....come the election period,Raila Amolo Odinga had become the centerbolt of Kenyan politics he had grabbed the heart and immagination of almost alol kenyans save for the feew who had not seen the light, this was a man who entered a battle with very many Gun barrels pointing at him but he managed to cheat the enemy and emerge the winner as we all know, with him he brought an Enigma in Kenyan politics.......this is exactly how Obama has grown starting late then announcing his ambition with many ranking him even behind Edwards and Hillary reason you kmow why,the weakness of the human heart (favouring one you see as more of your own to the other)you know what am saying, they started with religion, they came with experience and lastly it was all over, they ran out of amunition and Mr. Bill clinton had seen this coming.

Now it is the time for us all to rally behind the change we can belive in,a change for America is a change for the World and believe me,am seeing America under Obama and It is going to be the America that people want.

If am to advice our senator i will tellhim not to worry about Maccain because Hillary clintons attacks were a blessing in disguise,in fighting Obama she has left him flat with nothing for Maccain to capitalise on,the American people are okay with the Obama they have now and no old wound can be used to make them change their mind.

LONG LIVE MR.PRESIDENT.

ABOUT CREATE-AFRICA

About Us

Community Rural Empowerment Alliance in Technology Extensions in Africa (CREATE-AFRICA) is a partnership alliance of organizations bearing all kinds of existence. The alliance was formed after a case study that was carried out by The West Side Players Theatre in conjunction with Jubilee Trust Consultants Lim
ited.
The economic situation in Kenya comparing the deliverables within the Growth Domestic Products and the Consumer Price Index; the general remark evaluated highlighted global partnerships of all civil society organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations , Faith Based Organizations, Foundations, Charities, Donor Agencies and other Financial Institutions to create a common platform in form of a common implementation summit to implement all the eight(8) Millennium Development Goals regardless of size, geographical dimension and the overall objective bound.
The challenge culminated on the recurrence of a certain community needs that needed other communities’ intervention for example, communities in North Eastern Kenya highly needed food materials from communities in Rift Valley and Western parts of Kenya due to ecological bio diversities that favored Western Kenya and Rift Valley in food production. It was however discovered that North Eastern part; arid and semi arid land (ASAL) nature favored beef ranching and is also rich in minerals especially Iron (ferrous)that is used in the manufacture of farm implements e.g. jembes , that are needed by farmers in Western Kenya and rift valley for cultivation thus implies that for a steady food production, to meet all the Kenyan population, a partnership resource mobilization coalition has to be developed to improve food security situation.
At country level, it was discovered that chief market products that started in Kenya, some had their raw materials produced form the neighboring countries, Kenya and Uganda and vice versa thus bringing up a partnership need from the members of east African community.
The common markets from the East African communities have also some scarcity in the production of goods and thus partnering up with the Common Market for Eastern and southern Africa, (COMESA) and finally for Africa as a continent to sustain its economic need, there is need for a global partnership with members of other continents in order to reinforce a global market portfolio balance.
The major problems affecting African communities have all been highlighted in the CREARE-AFRICAs line of programmes highlighted. At least every organization deals in one or two or even more of the programmes. We call upon organizations that implement their activities that are in line with the highlighted programmes to partner up with other organizations implementing other different programmes to build other new Africa that is socio-economically stable. The programmes offered are

WHY DO PEOPLE FORGET SO FAST???

If kalonzo knew well where he belongs, he wouldnt be doing what he is doing now, this chief of ukambani would not be fighting our beloved Primeminister if he knew where he belongs.

since kastivo doesnt know where he belongs, let me remind him,

After the 2007 general elections, you (Kalonzo) were a distant third behind Kibaki,so if you knew where you belonged you would not be denying us the much sought peace that we fought for for the accord to be signed by the two equal partners in the coalition.Instead you should be quiet and thank God the ODM never insisted on your sacking since the coalition partners had a right of demanding your resignition coz you were not a partner in the coalition.

Secondly if we kenyans can backdate our memory ,me in particular as a kenyan i can remmember that you are a man who got a government appointment when Kenya was going down something that your honorary proclamations before the elections shouldnt have permited.

so!

Mr.Kalonzo, how on earth can you start competing with the primeminister of the government of kenya who has been given his mandate by the constituion of the republic of kenya?how?

if iam to be fare and sincere, this war should be waged betweern honourable mwai kibaki and the primeminister since they both share the executive power but we dont for sure know their boundaries.so i expect to see Hon.Raila in a tug of war with the Hon.Kibaki to find out who is superior but not with you miracle man.

If you think again that a miracle will happen and your powers supeceed those of the primeminister then you are in for a rude shork even if it is the president behind your bickering because as kenyans we already spoke out and having been given a raw deal (primeministry instead of presidency)
we wont accept to be pushed any lower.
by insensitive politicians who have already forgoten the party that took them to parliament.

I wish to welcome the premier back, well be back Mr.Primeminister.
